GC Houston is the primary educational outreach program for the UNA-USA’s Houston Chapter. It engages middle school and high school students in diplomacy and international relations in an educational setting. Global Classrooms began in 2000 and Houston was one of the first chapters in the country to be granted the opportunity to run the program in local schools. Since then, hundreds of students have benefitted from the program. We serve traditionally underserved schools to bridge the gap between students from well-funded schools to those who lack access and opportunity.
The program is run by volunteers on the UNA-Houston Board (pictured with US Diplomat-in-Residence John Roberts) and by local college volunteers with years of Model United Nations experience. Each volunteer dedicates days and hours from their daily lives and responsibilities to organize GC Houston for the benefit of delegates because they all believe in the effect Model UN can have on a child’s education.
Our current Conference Director is Maryam Ghaffar. Maryam has been with GC Houston since 2010 and is a middle school teacher at Pilgrim Academy in HISD. For questions and information, contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
